Should You Rent A Storage Unit For Your Survival Gear?

Blog

As someone who collects survival gear or considers yourself a prepper, you will likely invest in a lot of things that will ensure you are prepared in all kinds of scenarios. From standby generators and extra dehydrated food to a cache of extra water and ammo for your firearm collection, you will amass quite the collection through the years. Many preppers choose to keep their goods at home, but there can be others who prefer to stow their things in a storage unit. Which plan would work out the best for you? Here are a few things to help you decide if you need a storage unit for your survival gear.

How much space do you have available at home?

If you don't have a lot of space available at home, it can be best if you go ahead and seek outside storage. Obviously, you do not want your survival stash taking up all of the living space you have available. For example, if you live in a really small, two-bedroom home without a basement or attic, you may not have room to keep your survival gear. Having even a small unit nearby can keep you from getting overcrowded at home.

What constitutes the bulk of your stored goods?

If the bulk of your stored goods are items that could easily be stable in a storage unit, it is a good indication that a storage unit would work out well for you. Specific types of things work better in a typical storage unit than others. For example, dry canned goods may not go well in a unit because it is not good for them to be exposed to varying temperatures. However, something like extra survival apparel would do fine in a storage unit.

Is there a storage facility close to your home?

It would not be logical to take all of your survival gear and store it away in a place that is a long distance away from your home. Luckily, the majority of cities and towns across the country have storage units and various facilities available. If you do live in a really small town and the only storage facility is in the next city over, you have to weigh the pros and cons of having your gear in a place that you will have to drive a bit to get to in case of an emergency.

Find Moving Tips for Your Family Here

I try to keep my living expenses down to save money for my family. But when we faced moving from one state to another last year, I didn't know how to do so without breaking my budget. Fortunately, a relative of mine suggested that I ask a moving contractor for help. The contractor helped me plan a moving strategy that not only saved me money on boxes, supplies and transportation, they also provided tips on how to make the move easier once we arrived to our destination. I learned so much about moving that I developed this blog. I offer tips on how to move on a budget, select the right moving supplies and even how to pack your belongings properly. If you're ready to get started, keep reading. Thanks for stopping by and good luck with your move.
