Tips On Using A Residential Moving Service For The First Time

Blog

Has it been a long time since you've moved? Have you always relied on family and friends to help you with your stuff but this time, some extra help will be required? If this move will be the first time you use a company that specializes in residential moving services, you might have a general idea of what to expect but then again, you'll obviously know more once you witness it first hand. Here are some tips that can make working with a moving company easier and make your big moving day go off without any issues.

You Want Everything Organized and Possibly Boxed Before They Arrive

When you work with a moving company, you are likely paying them for their time. It could be by the hour or you might pay a flat fee but only have a specific number of hours where you can use the help. This means time is of the essence, so you need everything to be boxed up and ready to go when they arrive. Any last minute preparations should be made before they pull up to the curb.

This could change of course if you are also paying the movers to actually box things for you. But they will allow for more time for that as well. Even then, though, you should still have everything that needs boxed out of the closets or cabinets and ready to go.

Get the Insurance Package and Then Let Them Handle the Valuables

Sometimes when moving, people think that they should handle their most valuable or precious items themselves because they care more about them than the movers do. But you might be looking at this the wrong way. Most moving companies offer insurance that will cover any damage if something happens during the move. Get the insurance policy and then let the movers handle all of your stuff including the valuable items. If a mover drops something, the damage is now covered. That's not true if you are the one that damages it.

You Should Also Have a Game Plan for Where Everything Goes in the New Place

In the interest of time, you should also have a plan in place for what happens when you and the movers arrive at your new place. You don't need to know where every last box goes but know at least which room different boxes go in and where all the furniture should be placed.

If you have additional questions, reach out to a company like Helping Hands Movers Inc.

I learned so much about moving that I developed this blog. I offer tips on how to move on a budget, select the right moving supplies and even how to pack your belongings properly.
